Majora’s Mask Remake For The Nintendo 3DS Highly Desired But Not Likely To Happen

majoras-mask

Recently, Eiji Aonuma the producer of many games in the Zelda series has stated that the Zelda staff would do a Nintendo 3DS version of Majora’s Mask, the second and final Zelda game that was released on October 26, 2000.  Majora’s Mask is perhaps the darkest Zelda game of them all and it certainly changed the dynamic of the Zelda universe in many ways.  You had only 72 game hours to complete the game and Link had to battle someone else instead of Ganon or Vaati…the Skull Kid.

Eiji Aonuma stated that if there was enough of a desire from Zelda fans to see Majora’s Mask on the 3DS, then it could be a possibility.  Aonuma said that fans had a huge desire to see The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the 3DS and that was why it was remade onto the Nintendo 3DS system.
If there was a similar output of emotion and desire from fans for a remake of Majora’s Mask, I believe it would be made.  However, I do not believe that a remake for Majora’s Mask is going to happen for the Nintendo 3DS.  While Ocarina of Time received much praise overall for being groundbreaking, Majora’s Mask did not.  If you recall, the jump from a bird’s eye view Link To The Past on Super Nintendo to Ocarina of Time’s complex 3D world was a huge leap in technology.  Majora’s Mask used the same engine as Ocarina of Time and we did not see any graphical enhancements in the series until Wind Waker for Gamecube and arguably not until Twilight Princess for Wii.
Many players of Majora’s Mask complained that it was too difficult of a game.  This was mainly because you had 72 game hours to complete 4 major temples and defeat the Skull Kid.  You had to make use of the Ocarina of Time to slow down and advance time.  If you did not complete a temple, you had to redo it.  Another complaint was that instead of the standard “big 9 levels” of Zelda, there were only 4 temples to complete.  Also, the bottom line is that Majora’s Mask did not sell as many copies as Ocarina of Time.  I do believe that this is because you had to spend money on a controversial memory expansion pack which I believe was another $49.95.
I however, did enjoy Majora’s Mask very much.  There were many sidequests and I enjoyed seeing the alternate personalities of the characters from Hyrule that wound up in Termina, which was kind of an alternate version of Hyrule.  Think of it as “the second quest” from the original Legend of Zelda.  It was fun switching between masks and playing a ton of mini-games.  However, will Nintendo profit from releasing Majora’s Mask on the 3DS?

Earlier this summer, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time 3DS was launched as part of  the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series.  To continue the celebration, the final Nintendo Wii Zelda title called Skyward Sword will be coming in time for the holidays.

If the hardcore fans of the Zelda series can make their voices heard, perhaps we can have Majora’s Mask released for 3DS by the summer of 2012.  Let’s just hope this time we don’t need to buy that “special memory pack” like we had to for Nintendo 64 in order to play it!

Top 5 NES Games We Want On Nintendo 3DS To Be Made Into 3D

nintendo-3ds

As of this writing, there are only two classic NES titles that can be played on the Nintendo 3DS with the new 3D effects.  Excitebite and Xevious are these titles and neither are very interesting to me in my personal opinion.

The Wii Shop seemed to always be updated with something new to grab, but with the 3DS eShop, there is not much action going on there.

One can only hope that these 5 titles make it into the Nintendo 3DS eShop redone with the special Nintendo 3DS 3D effects.

The Legend of Zelda

If you were a child of the 1980s, you undoubtably know about the original Legend of Zelda game.  Even today, it is still very playable as the graphics are not poor at all.  Compare this to something from Atari 2600 to see what I mean.  The only concern is since the game has a birds-eye view, would making the game 3D make any sense at all?

Duck Hunt

Duck Hunt was ahead of its time when it was launched.  I think you could even play with R.O.B., the robotic operated buddy, couldn’t you?  You had a light gun and the game was 3D.  Oh wait, are we going to have to order a special light gun for the Nintendo 3DS?  That’s a very small screen to shoot at…even smaller than your 1980s television you had.  Maybe you could use the touch screen, but I have a feeling that would be difficult to pull off as well.

Ghosts ‘n Goblins

Wasn’t Ghosts ‘n Goblins one of the first platform games to try and fake “Mode 7″ graphics before it was available in Super Ghosts and Goblins on the Super Nintendo.  Well, now the Nintendo 3DS could give the original Ghosts ‘n Goblins that “Mode 7″ injection that it needed.

This was probably one of the hardest games to beat on the NES…that and Master Blaster.  And you couldn’t go online to try and get cheat codes or any other type of help.  You had to talk to your 8 year old buddy who just failed english class.  Do you think he knows how to beat Lucifer in this game?  I didn’t think so.

Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!

Yes, I said it.  Mike Tyson’s Punch Out.  Not just Punch Out with Mr. Dream or whatever that wannabe guy’s name was.  Heck, you could even throw in some of Mike’s new tattoos.  This game was 8-bit 3D from the start and the controls for the Nintendo 3DS would make this game amazing.  You could use the tilt effect, or even jab Super Macho Man in the eye with the stylus.

Super Mario Bros 3

Super Mario Bros 3 was probably the best Super Mario Bros game of all time.  It revived all of the good elements of the original Super Mario Bros and completely blew away the absolutely crazy Super Mario Bros 2 which not many people liked.  Also missing was the very annoying Yoshi.  Mario had a ton of cool powers to gain, such as the Racoon Suit, Frog Suit and my personal favorite, the Tanooki suit.

If the Nintendo 3DS could give us the “Mode 7″ effect that Super Mario World had for Super Nintendo, then that would be amazing.  Super Mario Bros 3DS would be a best-seller for sure.

Microsoft Apologizes For Rude Amy Winehouse Tweet

amy-winehouse

Whoever was running the Twitter account of the Microsoft Xbox game console @tweetbox360 sent out a tweet on Monday.  The tweet encouraged anyone who saw the tweet to go out and purchase the recently deceased Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black at the Zune store.

The tweet was perceived as being as a ploy to capitalize on the death of the Grammy award winning British singer, similar to what many marketers did in June of 2009 when Michael Jackson died.

Microsoft told the press “Apologies to everyone if our earlier Amy Winehouse ‘download’ tweet seemed purely commercially motivated. Far from the case, we assure you,” the company said after the backlash, adding “With Amy W’s passing, the world has lost a huge talent. Our thoughts are with Amy’s family and friends at this very sad time.”

Amy Winehouse’s death this weekend has caused a boom in her music sales.  Her 2006 album “Back To Black” climbed to the top of the US and UK iTunes charts, where it stayed through Monday.

Cloud Services For Nintendo Wii U Offered By Acer

acer

Currently, the Taiwanese company Acer is trying to buy iGware.  iGware is the company that provides the online features to Nintendo’s various console and handheld systems, such as the Wii, DS, 3Ds and the upcoming Wii U.

The purchase of iGware is going to cost $320,000,000 USD to Acer.  Acer plans on charging Nintendo approximately $30,000,000 USD per year for the cloud-based services.  A figure has not been released as to how much Nintendo currently pays for the same deal.

iGware has a very long history with Nintendo.  This is because the owner of ArtX, Dr. Wei Yen designed the Nintendo GameCube’s graphics processor over a decade ago.

Dr. Wei Yen founded iKuni which has been rebranded as AiLive.  Yen’s company currently works with Nintendo to develop software tools for developers making games for the Nintendo Wii.  AiLive developed the WiiMotion Plus accessory.  This accessory is necessary to play what could be the Nintendo Wii’s final big blockbuster which is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

This is a similar move that happened when Nintendo was shifting from the GameCube to the Wii at the end of 2006 when they release The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.  iGware will become known as Acer Cloud Technology Company and will continue to provide cloud services.

Top 5 Playstation Vita Problems

sony-playstation-vita

Problem #1: New Operating System

The Cross Media Bar is gone and in place of the user interface is orbs that are supposed to make the interface more finger-friendly.

Problem #2: No Video-Out

The latest edition of the PSP was that it had video output to an external display for both movies and games.

The first edition of the Vita will not have any type of video output.  I’m sure that future versions of the device will have it, just so that Sony can make more money.  Think about how Nintendo made Nintendo DS, then Nintendo DS Lite and then Nintendo DSi.

Problem #3: Easily Breakable

There have been reports that the Playstation Vita was dropped while sitting.  The distance to the ground was only about 3 feet and one of the L buttons popped off.  I sure hope they got that Best Buy warranty plan!

Sony claims that the unit was a pre-production one, so it did not accurately represent the final Vita handheld that is going to be in stores.  As we stated earlier, the unit was a pre-production one, so it doesn’t represent the final shipping handheld.  Compared to the Nintendo 3DS, I’d have to say that the 3DS felt a lot more sturdy.

Problem #4: Too Large To Put In Your Pocket

The PS Vita is a very large handheld.  It has a much larger screen than the Nintendo 3DS.  If you are a girl, then you can put it in your purse, but if you are a guy, then you are out of luck!  Actually that is one of the reasons why it is not called Playstation Portable 2.  Sony is assuming that with people carrying laptops, iPads and tablets, that the Vita should not be an issue.

Problem #5: Weird Direction Pad and Smaller Buttons

When compared to the Sony PSP, the PS Vita’s buttons are smaller, which can present issues with older gamers.  The directional pad seem to be a bit too close for comfort as well and may cause your hands to cramp.

Will The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Be Too Big?

zelda

On February 21, 1986, The Legend of Zelda was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System.  Over 25 years later, The Legend of Zelda has grown from a single 8-bit game into a mega franchise.  There have been many new Zelda titles over the years, everything from Majora’s Mask to Spirit Tracks.

You can probably go back and play The Legend of Zelda and beat it in a single day.  However, with the newer 3D versions of Zelda, such a task cannot be accomplished.  If you thought that Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess took a long time to play, then you’ll be surprised to hear that the final Zelda to be released on the Nintendo Wii, Skyward Sword will be the biggest one yet.

There is so much content in the game, that beta testers are having a difficult time getting through the game to make sure that  Zelda game yet, and said that it was no exaggeration.

It has been said that RPG elements have been implemented into the game.  Supposedly, you can upgrade your items as you go along in the game.  However, I must say that this has been done before.  Think about trading up the Kokiri Sword for the Master Sword.  It is uncertain if there is an RPG style of leveling that will be used.

Other mysteries that are left are whether or not we will hear the voice of Link.  So far we’ve only hear him scream if he is falling from a large cliff or if you want to count the poor voice overs done by the Phillips CD-i Zelda games, which Nintendo doesn’t even recognize as real Zelda games.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword should be available just in time for the holidays this year.
